In the Syrian crisis, tendencies of a new aggravation are outlined. It seems the fact, that in this grueling war chemical weapons are still used, is finally confirmed. That these weapons do not yet have "possessors" is another issue: the opposing sides and superpowers, "protecting" them - US and Russia - periodically accuse each other. I recall that the other day in the Aftris settlement, freed from terrorists by government, a laboratory for the production of chemical weapons was discovered.

As Deputy Foreign Minister of Syria Faisal al-Miqdad officially stated on March 10, about 24 tons of deadly chemical weapons that terrorists use against civilians are found in the warehouses of the laboratory. Moreover, the Syrian official noted that there are also relevant documents. He invited Western specialists to study them jointly, guaranteeing their safety, but so far this initiative remains just an offer.

On March 13, another verbal skirmish occured at the UN Security Council, during which the US representative to the UN, Nikki Haley, stated that in the recent period, three chemical attacks against civilians were organized by the troops subordinate to Bashar Assad. Nothing about proofs or evidence was said in this regard, but Mrs. Haley hinted that, just like a year ago, when the Americans struck at the government airbase Khan-Shaykhun, her country is currently preparing to take drastic measures.

Of course, the representative of Russia Vasily Nebenzia made counter-accusations. According to the Russian diplomat, as early as March 5, the terrorists of the Al-Nusra organization used a substance containing chlorine against the population of East Ghouta, which paved the way for unilateral power actions against sovereign Syria. According to Nebenzia, the Russian and Syrian sides received information that another provocation was being prepared.

However, the development of events did not end there. A few hours later, the commander of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, Valery Gerasimov, said that the United States planned to strike a missile on the government districts of Damascus. Not denying that there are Russian servicemen there, Gerasimov said that if there is a threat to their lives, the Russian side will resort to retaliatory actions. However, some analysts believe that this will not happen, and the target for strikes will not be Damascus, but the places of the compact deployment of military units loyal to Asad. In any case, the situation is clearly exacerbated. The situation is much like the most intense period of the Cold War - the beginning of the 1980s. At that time, Afghanistan was a kind of arena between the two superpowers - the USSR and the USA.

If you have not forgotten, it was Afghanistan where the famous terrorist Ben Laden started his “glorious career”: from a fighter against the government forces to becoming the world's most famous terrorist and organizer of the September 11 attacks. Let us also remember that the government troops supported a limited contingent of Soviet troops, and the rebels - the West. This is said just by the way. In my opinion, today the world faces an even greater test than in the 80's. A number of factors, in particular, geopolitical, religious, etc. has sharply escalated.

At the same time, the actions of current politicians have become even more unpredictable, as evidenced, inter alia, by statements made in the recent period by the leaders of the two powers, as well as the actions they are taking.

The last argument is the unexpected resignation of US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. In all likelihood, no other diplomat will be appointed to this post, but the director of the CIA, Michael Pompeo, who can hardly be called a supporter of peace. The phenomenon is unprecedented, in any case, President Trump will nominate his candidature, which Congress must approve yet. We can only wait for a response from Russia.
